Synopsis:

As Hell reins terror on the earth, can one child bring back humanity and defeat the Devil himself? After millions of people vanish and the dead rise to spread plague over the Earth, 23 year-old Evelyn and her brother join with a small group as they fight for survival. As the plague spreads and the number of the Reanimated rise in humans and animals alike, there isn’t anything man made that is strong enough to hold them off. When Evelyn and her group find one of the only children left on Earth—an Autistic child—the Devil begins lurking in the darkness, following their every move. The remaining children are the only chance the human race has at defying the plans the Anti-Christ holds. Of all the horrors the Earth now holds, none are comparable to how treacherous the living become once their humanity is thrown out the window. Evelyn realizes survival isn’t just fighting for your life but fighting for your humanity in a world of terror. Join the journey fight for survival against the undead and beasts released straight from the pits of Hell.

My thoughts:

This is one gory zombie book! One of my favorite parts is when a guy is stabbing a zombie in the forehead and gets blood in his mouth. This is a lesson people! When stabbing zombies, do not keep your mouth open. Should that even need to be said?! Well apparently this guy missed the memo! Awesome and gross all wrapped into one mouthful!

This book starts out straight away. People are taken away from their loved ones and nobody knows why. Of course the government is saying it is a massive, world wide hoax but then the undead start to rise. They call them the reanimated. I say, let’s not ask anymore questions and stab them in the head, mouth closed please! And that is exactly what Eve does.

This girl is a bad ass. I mean it can’t be said any other way. She has all her ducks in a row. I don’t think it was ever mentioned as to why, or maybe I was reading too fast and missed it! I wish I would know though, I want to know why she keeps bags and bags of gear, and food, and weapons. She likes to be prepared yes, but most people have a motive behind their actions. But even with that bit of weirdness, I love this gal. She is kick ass and ready to shove swords, bullets, or any other handy object, into the brains of anyone, zombie or non, that is trying to kill her and her brother.

There were a few parts where the plot is nearly redundant. Someone would say something and then it would be repeated, but that could easily be cleaned up with a little more editing. The plot itself was interesting, although I want to see a bit more of the bad guy. Is this really the Devil? He seems to not do much and he’s a bit annoying but I’m hoping book two will bring him out more.

And the worst part for me was the religious aspect. Yes, I know the synopsis makes it sound like the rapture, but it almost felt like a lecture as to how America lives. Most parts can be overlooked if you’re not overly religious or do not enjoy religious books. I just thought it might be a bit much for a zombie book, but overall it was really good and definitely worth reading. I’m even looking forward to getting book two!
