Synopsis:Fractured Light

I’m dying, I thought. This was unexpected and not at all how I envisioned my death. I was supposed to die gardening in a flowerbed as a hundred-year-old woman, not as a seventeen-year-old trapped in a lake beneath inches of ice.

Llona Reese is used to living on the run. After the Vykens killed her parents, she knew they would eventually come for her too. She can’t take any chances. But when she starts to make friends for the first time in her life, she gets careless and lets her guard down. Big mistake.

As an Aura, Llona can manipulate light and harness its energy. But if she wants to survive, Llona will have to defy the Auran Council and learn to use her power as a weapon against the Vyken whose sole desire is to take her light. Now she’s caught in something even bigger than she can understand, with a power she can’t wield, and no one she can trust, except, just maybe, a mysterious stranger.

In this breathtaking and romantic adventure, Rachel McClellan delivers a truly mesmerizing story that will keep you guessing to the very end.

My thoughts:

This is difficult for me to review. Firstly, I started this series while on vacation so I couldn’t have my nose stuck to my Kindle as much as I would prefer. I kept having false starts and I truly believe that affected how I felt about this. About 50% in however, I finally was able to sit and read and really started getting that connection that I was missing.

Llona is an interesting character, and for the most part I can understand her decisions, mostly… There are some that seem a bit out of character but again, with the false starts that could have affected how I appreciated this plot. I like May the most. She just seems so feisty and fun to be around! But again, Llona was really intriguing. As was Christopher. I kept questioning what in the world was going on with him.

So, 50% things got better but 82% was about where I really got into this so much that I absolutely just couldn’t put it down. I didn’t trust anyone by this point and really just wanted Llona to learn more so she could survive. I really do love May but it’s so hard to want people to get close to Llona when you feel as if you can trust no one! And I never did figure out the villain, it was hidden nearly to the very end. And the ending was perfect, a little bit of a cliff hanger but a good ending for a beginning book and a great way to make readers want to dive into book two. Which is exactly what I plan to do!

The plot was pretty steady. A few hiccups but overall, this was really well written and left me wanting to read Fractured Soul, hopefully with less interruptions!!!

I would most certainly recommend this if you enjoy an easy read, good plot, and fun characters. I’m hoping Fractured Soul is going to pick right up where this one left off!
