My thoughts

What a ridiculously cute mystery! Part fashion, part sleuth, all fun!

I am very much in love with books like this that remind me of The Cat Who books. I just love their feel and flavor (not literally thank goodness). Mysteries are not really my thing but I think it is thrillers that are not my thing, so I am venturing out into these types of amateur detective stories, that have a lot of snark.

The main character, and amateur sleuth, Cookie, can see ghosts. That just makes life worse (or better I guess depending on your perspective). She is at a fashion show, showing items from her own boutique, when she finds a known feisty model peering over a dead body. Blood is all over Hannah’s hands and it looks like case is closed. The poor girl was murdered by a shoe that Hannah wore during the show, so… that’s it right?

Do you have a special talent for finding dead bodies? Kind of like a corpse radar?

Not when you have two pesky ghosts egging you on to find out if she IS really the killer, it’s not!

What I love about this are the ghosts. They add a sense of fun to the entire thing, even when Cookie is up over her head and doggie paddling for life. Which seems to happen often. One of the ghosts, Sam, was a private eye in his earlier time and he is trying to give Cookie hints while she is on the hunt for the real killer.

Sam’s Surefire Sleuthing Pointer: If caught, shut up. Don’t talk.

As the story continues the ghosts help her with the mystery as much as they can. To add to the mystery she also starts dating one of the cops that brought Hannah in, Dylan, and Hannah’s lawyer. You would think this would be awkward, and the ghost’s talk during those evenings WERE quite hilarious, but it just added in another layer of fun.

To add to all of this, Cookie also has a psychic cat! Who would not want a psychic cat?! Her name is Wind Song (awwww so adorable) and she is able to tell Cookie things by using a Ouija Board and Tarot cards. Obviously she was my favorite character because PSYCHIC CAT!

Wind Song immediately positioned her delicate paw on it. We waited with bated breath to see what message the cat would relay. Wind Song moved the thing around the board at a steady pace. Heather had a pen and paper ready to jot down the message.

The only downside is the fashion bit. This entire plot is about fashion and as such there is fashion in the book. Cookie owns a vintage boutique. But for some reason the paragraphs that described the clothes just made me want to go to sleep. I’m not really into fashion though, so maybe someone who is would lap this up like honey!
