Everyone is exactly like me. There is no one like me. The rough fabric of my cotton nightgown chafes so I lie very still. They say my discomfort comes from being built like one accustomed to niceties. How is that fair when I myself have never experienced anything but copies of the real thing? My entire life is an imitation. I am an Imitation. I've been here five years. Training. Preparing. Waiting. And now I have a letter. My assignment has begun. I am a prisoner. I am not Raven Rogen. I am here to die.
**Book one in the Clone Chronicles**
Wow! Talk about dystopian. Which I so love to love.
The one thing I didn’t love about this though was the whole conspiracy theory. I can understand wanting to break loose though. Poor Van is basically treated like cattle. She is worth nothing but the skin she wears. Which is intriguing and crazy all at the same time.
Once she gets out into the world though, Van learns quickly that her life is meaningless. Funnily in one of my discussion posts that is coming up in Feb I talk about tropes and if I like or hate them. There are a few mixed into this one. Although I found Ven to be really interesting the lives around her aren’t so much and then there is insta love! Argh!! Hate insta love. It just sickens me. I sorta of started losing the entire feel of the story once this is introduced. Although the conspiracy theory lost me a little too but not enough to put the book down.
I wanted to punch most of the surrounding characters. They all reminded me of pink bubble gum. Just go away and leave Ven alone already! There were only one or maybe two characters aside from Ven that I really wanted to hear more about but I think the storyline lends itself this way. We are made to believe that Ven’s new life is all about he superficiality of it all. And it really, really is. Ugh!!
Actually, this was a really easy read even with the normal tropes that we see in nearly every YA these days. Even with them, I enjoyed this. I didn’t have to reach far into my brain, I just sat with some coffee, and my pup and easily got through in a single night. Insta love and I didn’t want to shut this. Says something about the author! I did like the ending but it is a cliff hanger. Book two is out soon though so we won’t have to wait for long.
Hopefully the plot lives up to everything that is set up so far. If it does I may switch to really being into this series.
In short: It’s a short book with a lot going on. If it wasn’t one of my favorite genres I may not have stuck with it with all the tropes. That said, in the end I enjoyed it more than I thought I would and I’m looking forward to book two.
