He’s twenty-four. She’s eighteen.
His life is exactly the way he’s always wanted it to be...stable.
She’s quite possibly the very definition of unstable.
Noah saved her.
Georgina never wanted to be saved.
Growing up, Noah Clark was passed from one relative to the next until he finally ended up living with his abusive, alcoholic uncle in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina. Thanks in part to the unwavering love and support of his best friend, Ellie Turner, Noah survived those years, escaped his uncle, and grew into the man he is today. Now he runs his own business and lives a pretty normal, no-nonsense life—one where he maintains a high level of control.
Georgina is Ellie’s younger sister. Four months ago, Noah saved Georgie’s life, but he thought that was where his involvement with his friend’s sister would end. Now Georgie has returned home from the recovery facility her parents sent her away to and Noah, still haunted by the night that connects them, can’t stop himself from continuously trying to protect this girl he barely knows. But is he willing to give up all of the control he’s worked so hard to build in his life and risk everything for her? Even more importantly, would she do the same for him?
I am excited to be a part of the Adrift Series tour. I have sadly never read Sarah Darlington but I have seen her books, and the gorgeous covers on Goodreads.
I signed up for all four books since I love a series that connects people inside a town. I have to admit, I once again only judged the books off of the covers. I don’t remember reading the synopsis, maybe I did for book one since it sounds vaguely familiar, but I still jumped at the chance because these look sexy!
Book one is Kill Devil Hills #1. The only thing I did not like about it is the very intense nature of the relationship with an 18 year old. Maybe it’s due to my age because I know every 18 year old out there is going to tell me they can fall in love at 18, and I believe you, I get it. I just did not have the best luck with love at a young age so Georgie being so young threw me off a little. I prefer a romance, especially one this sexy, where I don’t feel a tad icky after ready. That said, I just pushed the thought of her age out of my mind.
It was almost easy to do that too because Georgie seems a bit older than her years. She’s gone through a lot but easily realizes her mistakes. She has a lot of issues with her choices but just like everyone else in the world, she’s working through it.
That said, there was a small hiccup with her and Noah where I felt like she glossed it over too quickly. She’s been through some pain and I just don’t see that type of pain being swept under the rug so easily.
The rest of the story however, is hot, hot, hot! Noah is a strange guy that is always pushing Georgie away and because of this neither of them know how to actually have a conversation. They both think they hate each other so it’s nice when they finally do start talking! Communication is a wonderful thing! Even in a fantasy world.
I love the side characters. Georgie’s sisters are amazing. Elle has a really important part in this and I am hoping she’s going to be in the next book, but again I don’t like to read the synopsis so the book is a complete surprise so I guess I’ll just have to wait and see. The mom surprised me a bit. I don’t know many moms that would let a full blown relationship happen right under their nose. It’s almost as if they are non-existent which is a major turn off for me. I didn’t get the parent’s reaction but again, I just kind of glossed over that so I could enjoy the romance.
In short: There are a few things that bugged me but the characters are deep and the plot is interesting enough to stick with it. I did not even think of DNF’ing this, although I was turned off by a few things. Even still, I’m interested in book two!
