Fear is sabotage’s sweetest weapon.

Kate has no time for meaningless romantic charades, and definitely no time for hot college professors who are full of themselves and smitten with her. Constantly battling eviction notices, tuition she can’t afford, and a sick, dependent mother, the last thing she needs is to be distracted with someone else’s complicated baggage.

When she stumbles into Ryan Campbell’s creative writing class, he is only “Mr. Campbell” to her, until Ryan finds himself captivated by her writing and she is forced to face their mutual attraction. His cocky know-it-all syndrome is enough to send her running in the other direction, and his posse of female admirers and playboy reputation are enough to squander any odds in her favor.

But underneath Ryan’s abrasive facade is something to behold, and she can’t stay away for long. Ryan and Kate must decide who they’re willing to become and fight against their former selves if they want to make things work. That’s if academia, vicious vixens, old skeletons, and their own mastery at self-destruction don’t pummel their efforts first.

my thoughts doneI devoured this book! It is a bit shorter than most of my reads but the plot was so good, I really want to use the word cute but so many take a negative connotation to that word, that I just tore through it!

I love the characters. Although they are totally messed up. I mean the very first chapter has Ryan all doting on my fiance, watching her while he sleeps and I could just feel the love that he felt for her. His love for her even made him late to an extremely important business meeting. I mean sure the guy is not the smartest rooster in the chicken coop but he’s totally and utterly in love! And it oozes out of the book. And in literally those first five pages his heart is torn out and eaten. It was harsh to read so I am sure the guy had some issues to get over.

And then we meet Kate. Maybe it’s just the name but this gal reminds me of Castle’s Kate Beckett. She has a lot of energy and spunk but there’s so much hidden behind so many walls that a guy is going to have to exert some effort to get through.

Enter the main plot! These two… Ohhh… I just wanted to throw a book at them! They are both complete morons but it’s hard not to be when you’re guarding your heart. The only downside was that we really got to feel Ryan’s point of view but I felt that Kate’s was just glanced over even though this book is about her.

Other than that I thoroughly enjoyed every page. If I hadn’t been reading this in bed, late at night with the hubby sleeping beside me, I probably would have been yelling at these characters! Ohhh… and Dean and Carter! I love those two! I’m super psyched that book three is about Carter! Cannot wait to get into his head!

Fabulous, easy read!
