Hitchhiking is a bad idea but Caden is desperate.
When she accepts a ride from the first car to come by she meets Gabriel. He's her age, hot, and the closest thing she has to a savior. Problem is, he is a total jerk. With nowhere to go, Caden convinces Gabriel to let her stay with him for one night. He reluctantly lends a couch.

That night Caden wakes up to strange noises. Concerned, she rushes into Gabriel’s room, already anticipating his bad temper. Instead, he’s kind, sweet, and suspiciously harmless—nothing like the man who gave her a ride. He seems like a different person altogether, and claims he is. By night he is Tom, and by day he is Gabriel. Caden finds herself drawn to the mysteries hidden in his eyes.

For Gabriel, Caden is an annoying mistake. One night turns into many, and despite all his anger towards her, she stays. She even seems to accept him and his flaws, but he still doesn’t trust her—is she staying for him, or has she already discovered more than he's willing to share?

My Thoughts

This starts right away with Rebbeca at a bridge, thoughts of jumping running through her head. She’s hurt, frustrated, and just got out of an abusive relationship. It starts immediately and I started to understand her character immediately. She decides that changing her name is a way for her to release the old self that allowed this to happen, and move on. Then she meets Gabriel.

Talk about interesting. Although it started on quite a big feel, it slowed a little. It builds though as the story of Gabriel and Tom starts to unfold.

The characters were good but I wasn’t finding myself completely in love with them. I do like Rebecca/Caden. She’s interesting and just trying to figure out life. But for some reason her story gets old fast. Gabriel and Tom is a whole other story. They are interesting but it took me a while to feel for him/them. Caden cannot figure out who she likes more and keeps flipping between the personalities. I found this really frustrating. Although, slightly understandable because she was in an abusive relationship so not being attractive to a strong, aggressive man would be hard for her, but come on. And it was funny (but not haha) that she got into this right after the bridge incident. She changed her name but not really her life. It was still in turmoil.

The ending was really good. I think it gave the book some oomph and it was the crescendo that I was looking for.

Overall, it was a good story with good writing but something about the characters kept holding me back from falling fully into love with the story.

About E.V. Fairfall

I love to write just as much as I love to read. I try to read a book per week, which doesn’t always work out, but it’s the thought that counts. Aside from all that I am a huge animal person.

Transformed is my first novel, but it isn’t my first publication; I’ve had several short stories published over the last two years. My main goal as a writer is to explore humanity and to give people something fun to read.
