Lady A is the most notorious blackmailer in the city. With just a mask and a gown to disguise her, she sweeps into lavish balls and exclusive events collecting the most valuable currency in 1725 London-secrets.But leading a double life isn't easy. By day Lady A is just a seventeen-year-old girl named Arista who lives in fear of her abusive master,Bones, and passes herself off as a boy to move safely through the squalor of London's slums.

When Bones attempts to dispose of his pawn forever, Arista is rescued by the last person she expects: Jonathan Wild, an infamous thief who moves seamlessly between the city's criminal underworld and its most elite circles. Arista partners with Wild on her own terms in order to save enough money to buy passage out of London.

Everything changes when she meets Grae Sinclair, the son of a wealthy merchant. Grae has traveled the world, seen the exotic lands Arista has longed to escape to her whole life, and he loves Arista for who she is-not for what she can do for him. Being with Grae gives something Arista something precious that she swore off long ago: hope. He has promised to help Arista escape the life of crime that has claimed her since she was a child. But can you ever truly escape the past?

My Thoughts

Well, yet another book that I could not fall in love with. So sad. Disney Hyperion too! Being the Disney fanatic that I am, I normally fall for everything they put out. This one just did not work as well for me.

One problem is probably my fault, yes it is me not you! I kept comparing this to Gail Carriger. That girl can do no wrong in my eyes! And seeing that the characters just did not compel me to read the book the way hers do, I could not help but compare, over and over and over again!

It is a cute book with a good premise. I just think I could not get out of my own head. There was nothing about the plot or the characters that really made me keep turning those pages!

I did enjoy the setting. I do also enjoy plots that keep moving and this one did just that. I tried to feel bad for Arista because she goes through a lot! One character that I really liked was Grae. I also just love how different that is spelled. I think it gives an idea of what his character is going to be like.

I am sad I could not really get into this one. It does have a good but predictable ending but I am glad that there will not be a book two. That is not to say that I will never read Lee’s books again because his writing does make me curious for more. This one just did not work for me.

In short: Interesting but did not HOLD my interest (if that makes any sense at all). Easy read but predictable ending. Read this PRIOR to reading any of Gail Carriger’s books, seriously!
