Remy Galway and her daughter Olivia are rebuilding their life after a failed marriage in a 300 year old cottage in historic Cold Spring Harbor, Long Island. Little do they know, another occupant is lurking in the haven of their own home. Will the After House be their shelter or their tomb?

My Thoughts

While this has an interesting plot there are a few things that threw me off of just absolutely loving this.

Insta love. Sigh! The main character has been separated from her crazy ex for a year. He was abusive and as I said, crazy. She meets this new guy and falls instantly in love. There’s the… Oh, but I’ve never done this before! And in they go… This kind of thing does not keep me interested in a book… ever!

Then we have the ghost. THE ghost is pretty cool. He has some issues left over from dying too soon and from being a ghost for a hundred years. Issues! He’s not even sure if he wants to help or be a pain but he’s not the typical this crap is going to be scary type of guy/ghost. Then we have some extra ghosts that are thrown in. To be honest I’m still not sure what their role was, other than to confuse me! They were like guardians but they came over as also being a tad crazy.

I did like how Eli’s story goes along though. I normally do not like the plot going back and forth in time but Michael Cash is able to handle the time differences beautifully. I loved every part of Eli’s story.

It’s easy to know who is after Remy. I’m surprised by her reactions to her ex since he was abusive. Everyone handles things differently though and she just really seems like a trusting person. I’ve read and seen way too much horror to trust anyone! Especially when so much is going on around her.

In short: This was good. Not my favorite ghost story but it was a first of Michael Cash’s books. It will not be my last.
