It is interesting that this is a romance about aliens. Do you guys think romances with aliens should work? Maybe if they were close enough in our genes, perhaps. Well, use that as food for thought for later, for now, this book is all about Lord Toric and Maya and their differences.
Sadly, I did read the first three, more like devoured, and had to wait around for this one. I love the story so much that I could not put it down. With this one, however, I lost some of the momentum that I previously had. It took me quite some time into the story to remember all, and honestly I still probably do not, to be able to move forward. I remember enough but I suggest either re-reading the previous books or at least looking at the synopsis to remind yourself of the plot.
All of the same characters are in this and it picks up pretty much straight from the last. As I said, I do not remember exactly, but I remembered enough to move forward and fall in love with the characters all over again. There are even a few twists in this that I really did not see coming. A couple of things were not answered technically, but with how the authors finished this, those answers are not really needed.
Much like the first three there is still a competition over Lord Toric and Maya has to deal with her competitors to get to him. There are also people coming out of the woodwork trying to kill her, or at the very least to keep her away from him. I was surprised by some of those people and even more surprised by the alliances they found.
The twists really threw me for a loop. This was so well done. The denouement was perfect for how this story has kept me on the edge of my seat! I was still there until all the threads were tightly wound and finished off. The main twist also gave food for thought and was approx 80% into the story and I actually had to stop for a minute to wrap my brain around what I just read. It’s a moment that I even talked with my husband about because it shapes the entire story and could shape stories beyond! More importantly it seemed effortlessly done. Like the authors knew what they were doing from the start and everything led to this culmination.
After getting my mind blown I dove right back in and finished this series off with renewed vigor. There was an energy that Maya gives that was tangible and left me wanting to read even more about her. Fortunately the authors really do end this at a place where I felt satisfied with the answers given and with their lives.
In short: This is a fascinating story that will leave you with questions not really about the characters but about existence. Very well executed.
