While visiting a psychic, Carter Spence and Brenda Raycroft’s reading turns tragic. The psychic touches them, suffers convulsions, and frantically runs into the street into oncoming traffic. Their fate is sealed in a coma and they must use any means possible to reach the psychic in the spirit world as they dodge deadly complications in an attempt for answers.

They pursue the psychic’s message before she can die and take the answers they need with her. When the spirit of the previous homeowner returns, this haunting soul begins tampering with the comatose psychic.

The sequel to Desert Son takes place four years after Carter and Brenda discover they are a couple reunited beyond the grave. The spirit world becomes intertwined with their own as they attempt to tap into these secrets to uncover disturbing truths about their fate in this paranormal roller coaster that will shake your soul.

My thoughts

This could easily be read as a stand-alone but is book two. There are enough reminders, although not too many to drag the book down, that a new to the series reader would easily know what is happening. Even though what is happening is all crazy!

This poor couple. It’s like they just cannot get a break! After book one there is a bit of a calm moment where they are just figuring out where to go with their life and on a whim decide to visit a psychic. The psychic winds up freaking out, running out of her office, and getting hit by a car, leaving Brenda and Carter in her wake, bewildered and questioning their future. The psychic winds up in a coma so it is up to the couple to figure out what was happening.

This starts their journey of intrigue and introspection. The paranormal twist that surrounds the couple and they wonder if they are destined to be haunted. Eeriness creeps around them and keeps Carter and Brenda constantly on their toes but unsure of why. It is those very questions that cause them to seek further into their past so they could reveal their future, even knowing that horror surrounds them at all sides.

A book of paranormal and horrific events and intriguing at every turn. There are so many questions and they leave the reader begging for more. The twist at the end is reminiscent of an Alfred Hitchcock!

My only critique are the strange things that couple does. They enter her parent’s house without her parent’s knowledge and then do not stay there after shuffling through some paperwork and old letters. Brenda also wants Carter to try to have an out of body experience even though she is the one that knows more about them. She continues to push and teach, and push some more to the point where I was getting quite aggravated at her.

There are only a few hiccups and for the most part the story does keep going and those hiccups only lag the story a bit. All in all a very interesting read.
