Coffeehouse manager and reluctant sleuth Juliet Langley returns in a gripping novel from the bestselling author of Death Before Decaf and Mug Shot. Just as things are perking up in Nashville, a serial killer sends tensions foaming over.
Juliet's personal and professional lives have recently received an extra jolt of energy. Her romance with the hunky detective Ryder Hamilton continues to simmer, and business at Java Jive has never been better. But her good mood quickly turns as stale as day-old espresso when she finds out that Ryder has been promoted to his precinct's homicide division. With him risking his life to catch the worst kind of criminals, Juliet's growing sense of unease ignites when a local college student goes missing.
Suddenly every Nashville resident is on high alert, especially Juliet's neighbor Chelsea. Juliet does her best to calm the girl's nerves, but her worst fears are confirmed when she finds Chelsea dead. Even though she tries her best to stay out of it, Juliet's involvement puts a strain on Ryder's first homicide case. The situation soon becomes even more personal for Juliet and her best friend Pete Bennett when one of their employees disappears during her shift. As a killer lurks in the shadows, Juliet, Pete, and Ryder seek out a double shot of justice.
This series just gets better and better.
When I started this series I thought I loved it but as I get further and further I realize that I just enjoyed the first and I am in love with the plot and characters as they grow.
I am a little confuzzled by some elements in Juliet’s love life. Of course I cannot exactly mention those elements but let’s just say that a guy, that I think I like for her, is acting really strange. A portion of that is explained at the end of this one, but not everything. It is really weird and I cannot wait to see if Caroline goes into this more in the next.
On top of that, this is not a love triangle, but so many guys like Juliet! She knows a lot of people so I can get why her boyfriend is a bit frustrated at all the attention she gives them. She’s the manager of a cafe, she’s not trying to hook up with anyone! But I think his feelings are being clouded by all these other guys being interested in her. Honestly, I probably would be too!
As for the mystery, of course Juliet is going to once again find another person murdered! Again! This time, however, the police are looking to her for some answers, not as a suspect but because she has proved herself as a sleuth. She’s also proved that she can find out information by sticking herself in the wrong place at the wrong time and through a lot of gossip.
Surprisingly, I had no clue who the killer was this time! There was so much going on that I didn’t even have time to figure out who the killer was. All of the clues led to a very short list of suspects! Of course my list of suspects was a lot longer than the list probably should have been. Caroline did a wonderful job of hiding the information and keeping me from figuring it out early!
In short: Just like the others in the series, this is fantastic. Well done cozy mystery. I cannot wait to pick up the fourth and find out more!
