Getting Ready for Christmas: No Fireplace Part 2! Santa’s Key

getting ready

THIS is so freaking adorable! My niece and nephew are still quite young and I’m thinking of making this for them! They do not have a fireplace and I’m sure those little questions are bound to pop up anytime now! Well, this little key helps keep those questions at bay. At least for a bit longer!

magickey44Saw this gorgeous picture over at Pearls, Handcuffs, and Happy Hour. Like Cara, I’ve searched and seen these around. Some aren’t too expensive on Etsy but if you want to make one yourself you only need a few things!

  • Skeleton Key
  • A tag you can print to
  • Cardstock
  • Stamp (if you want a santa pic)
  • Glue (Cara used Mod Podge)

Find a poem you enjoy. This one says:

It’s the night before Christmas & we’re excited as can be.
We’re leaving this out for you…it’s a very special key.
You can shimmy down the chimney, or tiptoe through the door.
Just use this key we left for you to find cookies, milk, & more!

Print the poem, or another you like, there are a TON to be found on the internet, and glue that to the card stock. Punch a hole in the side and wrap the key with ribbon and you’re done! If you don’t have time there are a lot of these on Etsy. Like a LOT!

I personally enjoy the poem below and will probably use that for my niece and nephew. Or maybe a mixture of the two will be fun!

We don’t have a chimney
as you can plainly see
But we still want you to visit
so here is your magic key.

Some carrots for your reindeer
and give them our love too.
We hope you like the cookies
We made them just for you!

It’s times like these when I miss my baby girl being young. I would have loved to share this with her when she was a kid.
