Lorraine and Ed Warren travel to north London to help a single mother raising four children alone in a house plagued by malicious spirits.

My thoughts

After seeing the previews I was hoping this would be very scary. In moments it was, but in others it failed the horror mark completely. Next week I have my review for the book The Demonologist which talks about what Ed and Lorraine have seen in their lifetime. It also has the Enfield case, which is the case that Conjuring 2 is based on.

Horror:

That said, it did extend the plot from the first quite a bit. This story expands on Ed and Lorraine’s relationship. Much of the story is actually about them and not about the demon-like presence that they are getting read to face.

The moments that are horrific are very well done. It is exacerbated by moments where you know something is going to jump out. Fortunately they do not do this often. I prefer the moments where the story builds the anticipation instead of just making you jump. The creep factor is massively intense but does build slowly.

Ed and Lorraine:

While this creepiness is slowing eating through the plot, we get to see Ed and Lorraine and how their relationship keeps them strong in very trying times. Lorraine does not want to continue as she has a premonition of Ed’s death so when they hear of the case in Enfield, England they decide to only look at the family to determine what the church should do.

Obviously that was not a great idea because this leads to them being forced to make some very difficult choices for the family.

In short:

Overall, I absolutely loved it. The plot was great and addressed their relationship and the way they deal with all the evil quite well.
