A girl in a small town forms an unlikely bond with a recently-paralyzed man she’s taking care of.
If you have not read this book, I highly recommend it. Although I also recommend having tissues! I actually recommend the tissues whether you are reading the book or just watching the movie, it’s going to get real!
This book, see full review here, absolutely killed me. I read it last year as part of my family’s book club and we all just loved it. The story is fabulous but the plot behind it all is also just as amazing. Instantly I was in love with Lou Clarke so I was excited to see her played by Emilia Clarke, whom we all have seen as a serious bad ass on Game of Thrones. Here she has quite a different personality. She’s sweet and vulnerable and although the movie did not go into the full reasons for her personality, it did hit enough points to make me fall in love with her all over again!
Then we have Will Traynor. My goodness Sam Claflin is gorgeous! How he was able to pull off being a paraplegic is extraordinary. I’d love to see the outtakes as I am sure he had to just MOVE every once in a while. Get up and dance, shake it all off, and then get back into character. Will Traynor is an exceptional albeit very depressed individual and I knew it was going to take a strong character to be able to pull off the facets of his personality.
This movie was splendid. I sadly did not see this in theaters when it first came out. Really I debated quite a bit but I also knew I was going to straight up ugly cry. The book did it to me quite enough, I was not going to ugly cry in front of strangers. Although they were probably also crying into their own tissues. Even still, now I wish I had went and saw it in theaters. I absolutely adored every minute. There are quite a few moments from the book, which truly needed to be added in, and although a couple were taken out it was enough of the book to make me happy.
Highly, highly recommend the book and the movie. If you don’t have time for the book (although oh my god who doesn’t have time for books) I would say this is one you could watch without reading the book but if you’re anything like me you’re going to want ALL of the secrets.
