Eighteen-year-old Eliza Mirk is the anonymous creator of Monstrous Sea, a wildly popular webcomic, but when a new boy at school tempts her to live a life offline, everything she’s worked for begins to crumble.
In the real world, Eliza Mirk is shy, weird, smart, and friendless. Online, Eliza is LadyConstellation, the anonymous creator of a popular webcomic called Monstrous Sea. With millions of followers and fans throughout the world, Eliza’s persona is popular. Eliza can’t imagine enjoying the real world as much as she loves her digital community. Then Wallace Warland transfers to her school, and Eliza begins to wonder if a life offline might be worthwhile. But when Eliza’s secret is accidentally shared with the world, everything she’s built—her story, her relationship with Wallace, and even her sanity—begins to fall apart. With pages from Eliza’s webcomic, as well as screenshots from Eliza’s online forums, this uniquely formatted book will appeal to fans of Noelle Stevenson’s Nimona and Rainbow Rowell’s Fangirl.

I have to say, it seemed that many were worried about Owlcrate having a Comic book theme but I was ecstatic! I’ll have to start doing an unboxing video to add to these reviews but it probably is needless to say that I loved my box! I got a Pop of Captain America, which is my hubby’s fav Marvel character but he still went into the library. My favorites are all villains. I would have loved Loki, but I was still quite excited to get Cap.

The books are also now exclusive covers. For this book, the cover is already gorgeous so I was curious how it was going to be different. It’s subtle but it’s there. And now I know my cover is different than anyone that didn’t get an Owlcrate, which I have to admit is pretty awesome.

The book itself is fantastic. Totally a YA with all the ups and downs of late teen life. Questions about boyfriends, life, college, friends, etc, but what set this apart was it was done in such a way that the main character was actually very popular, but online. She has major anxiety and wanted to keep her persona to herself, hence keeping LadyConstellation anonymous.

This is one book where I wanted to skip to the end. You know the character arc is going to be crazy harsh and I was so worried for her and for how her fans and friends were going to take the news. Only a very few friends knew who she was, and they work on her site! Because of this anxiety, in me not the character, I think I rushed through the middle bits. I hate skipping to the end but I so wanted to. I read this in a day, which is not unlike me, but it was because of my need to find out what happens. I can now go back and read it more slowly and enjoy the middle bits but I’ll wait for a bit so I can forget most of it.

That middle part also, was a bit the same. The story itself was completely different from anything YA I have read, and I loved it. But the anxiety of BOTH teens is starting to become a thing in YA, and it’s getting old. For this reason as well as the character arc, that middle bit was getting on my nerves. I think I wanted a bit more out of the characters. Better decisions, something.

The comic story with it is as fascinating as the story itself. I loved the drawings that are scattered throughout!

In short: This is an amazing read. Don’t be like me and try to read too fast. The wait is worth it!
