sunday-post2The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~

~ Itโ€™s a chance to share news~

A post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead.

I was reading a Feng Shui book and it really delves into not only the clutter in our houses but the clutter in our minds! I was really impressed (review coming soon) but what really got me is that the author started talking about obligations. She asked why do things that we simply do not want to do? I’m just now starting to learn to say no but especially when I don’t have time to do something.

For instance, I’m going to throw my mom under the bus here! My mom is not great with electronics. I normally talk her through whatever she’s doing and hope that my directions are good enough that she’ll get it. The other day she was in a tizzy about Christmas. The sad thing is our family is all over the place. My daughter got a job in Florida and only has two days for vacation. Normal for a new job. Well, my mom just felt that it was horrible that she was spending Christmas by herself. I do too but I live in Louisiana and I’m sure you can imagine airline ticket prices for two days at that time of year! So, although I was in the middle of math homework my mom just says, “Well figure out what we can do!”

Now, I’m normally a pushover. Seriously, I love helping people but not at the expense of school. I did look for about an hour and then had an AHA moment! Why doesn’t she just call Lil (my baby girl) instead of having me scour through stuff that no one wants to do anyway! Plus my aunt lives down there, they can always visit her. I normally do not say no to my mom but I had priorities. I love Lil and I would love to see her but it’s just not feasible right now. (Something Lil and I discussed) I went through my pro’s and con’s and decided that I was going to leave it to them. It’s not like Lil is 6, she’s 22. She’s a big girl even if I do still call her my baby girl. I could have spent an inordinate amount of time searching for things that they weren’t able to or just didn’t want to do! Hours that would have been wasted when I had Math homework staring me in the face (and it was mean too).

Well… all this got me thinking about the blog. I had my calendar SO FULL of stuff every single day that I was no longer having fun. Instead of saying no I was obligating myself to a ton of work that I wasn’t interested in. So… I changed it all around. I gave myself breathing room! As a matter of fact one of my fav authors asked if I had room for her for next month. I was able to say HELLS YES after those changes.

AND I’ve already noticed a huge weight off of my shoulders. I read two books yesterday and was loving life! It wasn’t that I was having a reading slump, I was having a blog slump and didn’t realize how stressed I was making myself!

More on this fabulous book soon! It has really got me thinking about what I allow into my life and what I allow to stress me out. It’s amazing!

What’s your prescription when you want to say no? Do you let people guilt trip you?

ON a side note!!! WALKING DEAD PREMIERS TONIGHT!!!! AHHHHH!!!! ๐Ÿ˜€ I am sooooo freaking excited. I’m going to make popcorn and glue my eyes to the telly! WOOT WOOT!

I understand where you are coming from. I have a hard time saying no to people. This is why I have to make a blanket statement that I don’t accept unsolicited books for my blog and I’ve given up (for now) doing blog hops, book tours, book blitzes, etc.
Just too much work and stopped being fun when I had a rigid schedule. Now I read what and when I want. Do memes when I have the time to. Much more freeing. Too bad I can’t in my own life though. I still get guilt-tripped into doing things I don’t feel like or don’t have time for. Can’t wait to find out about the book!

I’m posting the review around Christmas but here’s the Goodreads link! It was so awesome but I’m a lover of Feng Shui so it may be off putting if you haven’t heard of it. I’m just so excited that she has more than just house clutter in this. It was awesome!

Whew that is an awesome ah-ha! moment to have. In real life and e-life. I did that with the blog summer before last. I was doing a lot of posts I was eh on doing for tours or blitzes or whatnot and just had to put a stop to it. And since then the blog has been so much more fun for me. If I post something it’s because I want to and had something to say. Not because I couldn’t say no. It’s pretty empowering!

Aws about the baby girl not being home for Christmas but it’ll be okay. I spent my first Christmas away from home a couple years ago. And it wasn’t as exciting as being home obviously but it wasn’t horrible either. It can be fun too ๐Ÿ™‚ Maybe some of the other co-workers are having the same issue. Might be fun to gather a group and do dinner or something out ๐Ÿ™‚ And phone calls are always there too. Hard that first time but one of those life things you just can’t harp on or it’ll drive you nuts trying to figure it all out. You can always do a Fakesmas as well! That’s what my mom and I do these days since travel at holidays usually doesn’t happen. So when we are able to–this year in Nov (sometimes in Jan or Feb) we’ll do a Fakesmas together and do the traditional holiday meal and Christmasy type things. It’s really rather fun and a lot less stressful than regular Christmas usually is. lol

No wonder your blog is so awesome! I love strolling through and reading everything! I think that little empowering moment (or maybe huge moment) is really important for readers. We could read until the cows come home if we accepted every request! It gets so crazy!

The funny thing is, my mom is freaking out more than Lil. But that’s really a fantastic idea that I will have to let them in on. Plus by then I’m sure she’ll make friends. They already hung out at the beach all weekend! Ohhh to be 22 and not worry about sun exposure… ๐Ÿ˜€

I’m guilty of doing things I don’t want to. Not so much anymore. But I still cave in now and then. My blog is quieter than it used to be. This month may be crazy, but I want it that with Halloween and all my spooky stuff going on.
I’m trying to comment on a few more posts before Walking Dead starts. Only 40 minutes to go. I can’t wait!!!!

I’m hoping to learn my lesson! I always say I’m saying no but it’s really hard for me. Have to put my foot down (to myself) this time.

I watched it and LOVED it! I had chills. I recorded just so I can watch again ๐Ÿ˜€ I hope you enjoyed!

This sounds like a fascinating book! I like the way it got you thinking. I’ve definitely found myself doing far too many things that I don’t want to do and really for no reason. Your Christmas dilemma reminded me of a big one we fought over years ago. We finally stopped running around from family to family on Christmas day and now do everything before Christmas and now Christmas is just us and it’s lovely! No pressure, no stress. I hope everything gets worked out for you as well. Have a great week!

Pretty much my hubby helped work it out. He basically said he is not going anywhere! In his defense he’s traveling a ton this year and next and just wants a quiet Christmas like you described. Fortunately my daughter is less worried than my mom. They are big girls and I’m letting them work it out! Hopefully I don’t get any crazy phone calls. ๐Ÿ˜‰

ACK! Sounds like my sister! I’m doing this for fun so when the fun goes bye bye something HAS to be done! And Nyze, looking never hurt anyone ๐Ÿ˜€ Good luck!
