September 5: This week we’re talking about the books we struggled with in some way.

There are so many, but I’m going to keep this to books that are more popular. I could probably get to a list of 20! But I am also looking at a lifetime of reading, instead of just this year.

  1. Dante’s Inferno. It seems like it’s a magazine article spouting out hatred for all the men that screwed him over. Great revenge tactic, and extremely imaginative but, I hated every word.
  2. World War Z. I read this before the movie came out but could not deal with it. I know everyone loves it so it is definitely something that is a hiccup with me. I could barely stand to finish it. Funnily enough, I loved the movie!

  3. Anything by Kim Harrison. I don’t know why but her writing just kills me. I know she’s loved and I have a few of her books that I’ll try again, but for now, she’s my top author for not being able to finish one of her books.
  4. Secondly is the dear Neil Gaiman. I struggled with American Gods. I only read it because the show was coming out and then I still had to push myself.
  5. In my family’s book club we read one of Joe Nesbo’s books and I had to set it aside. I couldn’t even finish. In his defense, I think it is number eleven or something. I need to try to start at the beginning!
  6. The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt. Another book club book. Everyone loved this and I wanted to stab my eyeballs out. It was not a good time.
  7. As a fan of Mira Grant, I was devastated that I did not enjoy Symbiont. It didn’t have the same ring, for me, that her Newsflesh series has. I finished the books, but it was difficult.
  8. The Twelve by Justin Cronin. I struggled with book one, but there was enough to keep me going through it. When book two finally came out, I immediately purchased it, and haven’t read past page 100.
  9. I listened to Splintered by A.G. Howard, through audio, and maybe that was the problem, but I just couldn’t get with the program. I listened to books one and two and decided I didn’t want anything else to do with the series.
  10. I tried Stitching Snow by R. C. Lewis. Any time I read a retelling of a fairy-tale, I whine and cry and bitch. You think I would learn but I love fairy-tales so why wouldn’t I love the retelling?! I keep trying but I haven’t found one I like yet.
