February 23:

Ten Book I Enjoyed Recently (last yearish) That Weren’t My Typical Genre/Type of Book (or that was out of your comfort zone)

  1. The Martian! This book. I have not even brought myself to do a review yet! Although it is basically Sci Fi it has so much in it! So much comedy and drama and sarcasm! Sooner or later I’ll get to the review. When I stop fangirling every time I think of it. BEST book that I read last year. LOVED IT!
  2. The Selection I read as a part of a book tour. It sounded interesting but pretty weird. I’m not much into a lot of Sci-fi or Fantasy so this was totally out of my comfort zone but wound up being so worth it!
  3. Kissing Ted Callahan was really cute! I have this weird relationship with romance. I only read romance when I HAVE to have a break between all the horror I read. This one was fabulous but more than that, it was hard to get back to reading horror and dystopian afterwards.
  4. To Kill a Mockingbird is one that I never read in school. I wound up reading it because of my family’s book club. We wanted to read the new Harper Lee but wanted to make sure we knew first where she was coming from with this one. Wound up being REALLY good!
  5. Spending the Holidays with People I want to Punch in the Throat is a book that had me laughing, uproariously! Even though I read this prior to the holidays I could understand exactly where she was coming from. I do not normally read Non Fiction Humor, but I may have to change that.
  6. Scorpion Rules is another that really blew me away! The beginning was a little slow, but I think I had set the bar high so I would not have to read it. Once I got into it, I really enjoyed the story. Another Sci-Fi.
  7. Death Before Decaf is a Cozy Mystery. I had no idea that I liked them! I am not big into thrillers until very recently, but it started with books like these! This one is super cute but still has that mystery flair.
  8. As Chimney Sweepers really took me by surprise. I still remember this one and I read it Jan 5, 2015! I think this started my curiosity about cozy mysteries but this has a more Gail Carriger feel.
  9. The Sibyl Reborn was not one that I loved but I did in the beginning. It came out being okay, but more because of the issues I had with the characters. The premise of the book was really intriguing and I was hooked!
  10. Quite Contrary is a Fairy Tale retelling. The story actually goes through a few different fairy tales. I do not normally find myself attracted to fairy tales for some reason. This one wound up being okay. Not fantastic enough to write home about but good enough to be curious about the rest of the author’s work.

What books have you enjoyed that were out of your comfort zone?
